Karen Canfell Celebrates Jie Bin Lew on Inaugural CARI Grant Achievement

Karen Canfell, Lead of Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC) at the University of Sydney, shared a post on LinkedIn by Jie Bin Lew, Senior Research Fellow and NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow at The Cancer Elimination Collaboration at Sydney School of Public Health, The University of Sydney, adding:

“Congratulations Jie Bin Lew, Eleonora Feletto, other team members and the other deserved recipients of the Cancer Australia and National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) inaugural CARI grants!

Jie Bin is such a brilliant and dedicated researcher, and I can think of no-one better to lead this key program of work on cancers in young people.”

“Our team at The Cancer Elimination Collaboration (CEC), Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney is proud to be one of seven recipients of the inaugural Cancer Australia Research Initiative (CARI), with $2.18 million awarded to support our program STRIVE‑EOC (Strategic Targeting of Resources and InterVEntions for Early‑Onset Cancers).

STRIVE‑EOC focuses on prevention and early detection of bowel, breast, pancreatic, and liver cancers diagnosed at younger ages. The program brings together an outstanding group of researchers and clinicians working across cancer control, modelling, health economics, clinical practice, and primary care to generate decision‑ready evidence that can guide future health investment and action.

This award is a real team achievement, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their expertise, ideas, and hard work to make this possible.
