Kanad Basu: The Privilege of Honoring Remarkable Women

Kanad Basu, Partner and Consultant at ArrowsUP LLP and Director of International Partnership at The Institute of Breast Disease, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“March 8 held special significance this year. On the final day of the St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference and Asia Cancer Consensus Meet, which also happened to be International Women’s Day, we, The Institute of Breast Diseases, gathered at Taj Taal Kutir to celebrate women who lead with courage, compassion and conviction.

We had the privilege of honoring remarkable women who have excelled in their own fields: eminent actress and social entrepreneur Ritabhari Chakraborty, educator and producer Hashnu Mukherjee, renowned architect Bratati Ghosh and dedicated social worker Cheryl Francis.

Even more moving were the voices of brave cancer warriors who stood up not just as survivors, but as guides for others walking the same difficult road. Their strength reminds us why this mission matters.

At The Institute of Breast Diseases, we believe cancer never affects just one person. It touches families, friends and entire communities. That is why we are building something larger than an institution. We are building a community. A place where people support each other, share knowledge, spread awareness and catch the disease early before it becomes more severe.

What this really means is simple: this fight can only be won together.

A heartfelt thank you to my partner and CEO at IBDK and ArrowsUP Innovation/Soumen Das for the brotherhood and trust. Work becomes meaningful when you are surrounded by people who believe in the same purpose.

Grateful as well to eminent technologist Sanjoy Chatterjee and the ever-inspiring educator Saptarsi Goswami, my comrades Moumita Mukherjee, Basita Biswas and Parnava Ghosh and my student and CS faculty Anamika Guha. And a special note of appreciation to Anupama Garani, who reached out on her own to offer support and energy to grow this movement.

Moments like these remind me that real change rarely comes from institutions alone. It grows from people who care enough to stand together.”
