Julia Ismael: Promoting Leadership, Equity, and Visibility for Women in Oncology

Julia Ismael, Executive Director at GEDYT S.A., Co‑founder of W4oLATAM and Associate Researcher at the IECS, shared a post on LinkedIn:

What is not measured cannot be improved. And what is not visible is unlikely to change.

Health systems often speak about quality, equity, and resilience. But for these concepts to become reality, they first need to be measured, analyzed, and made visible.

In this spirit, the The Lancet Group Commission on Women, Power and Cancer issues a clear call to action: more resilient and equitable health systems require that women are not only beneficiaries of policies, but active participants in their design, leadership, and decision-making.

The evidence is clear. When women are present in positions of leadership and influence, health systems tend to become more equitable, more people-centered, and more sustainable.

For this reason, it is particularly encouraging that AAOC recently hosted the 3rd Congress ‘Mujer y cáncer’, a space that helps bring visibility to the challenges women face in oncology while also fostering critical conversations on leadership, equity, and transformation in health.

  • Measure.
  • Make visible.
  • Participate.
  • Transform.

Building more resilient health systems also means recognizing and strengthening the role of women as key agents of change.”Julia Ismael: Promoting Leadership, Equity, and Visibility for Women in Oncology
