Joshua Omale, Pediatric Oncology Advocate, Innovation Council Member at Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Trust is the most underestimated cancer control tool.
Many cancer strategies focus on infrastructure. Fewer focus on trust.
But in many low-resource settings, the real question families ask is not:
“Where is the nearest hospital?”
It is:
“Will this system help us, or harm us?”
When trust is weak:
- Symptoms are hidden
- Traditional or informal routes are preferred
- Care is delayed
- Referrals are ignored
Trust determines:
- when families seek help
- where they seek it
- and whether they stay in the system long enough to be treated.
Cancer control is not only a medical problem. It is a relationship between people and systems.
And in many places, that relationship must be rebuilt before survival can improve.”
