Joost Verhoeff: New Directions for Radiation Therapy in Non-Malignant CNS Conditions

Joost Verhoeff, Professor and Head of Department at Amsterdam UMC, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We are pleased to share our new open-access review article in Seminars in Radiation Oncology, entitled “Radiation Therapy for Non-Malignant Central Nervous System Tumors, Disorders, and Illnesses — Current Applications and Future Directions.” Felix Ehret et al.

This comprehensive manuscript outlines the evolving role of radiation therapy beyond malignant disease, detailing current clinical indications, treatment strategies, and emerging applications for non-malignant central nervous system conditions, including vestibular schwannomas, arteriovenous malformations, functional disorders, and select psychiatric indications. We also discuss risk–benefit considerations unique to these patient populations and highlights future research priorities.

This work reflects multidisciplinary collaboration and aims to inform both academic and clinical practice by summarizing evidence and identifying opportunities to expand safe and effective use of RT in non-malignant neurological diseases. We hope it stimulates further research and clinical discussion across radiation oncology and neurology.”
