“My First Experience at Global Conference of SIOP and CCI – This year in Amsterdam
This week I had the privilege of participating for the first time in the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP Global Conference and the Global Meeting of Childhood Cancer International (CCI) in Amsterdam —an inspiring experience that allowed me to learn, share, and connect with organisations and institutions from around the world working tirelessly to improve the lives of children and families affected by childhood cancer.
Among the many inspiring discussions, I was particularly moved by the work being done in the Netherlands, especially at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology —Europe’s largest paediatric oncology institution, bringing together more than 600 researchers and 900 healthcare professionals under one mission: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life.
It was also inspiring to learn that the Princess Máxima Center includes two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, managed by Ronald McDonald Kinderfonds, which provide families with a place of rest, connection, and care within the hospital itself. I feel truly proud of this model and of the Dutch system’s commitment to integrating family wellbeing as part of comprehensive cancer care.
Throughout the conference, key themes deeply resonated with our mission at Casa Ronald McDonald Perú: the importance of psychosocial support, nutrition, and health literacy, and the growing recognition of the voices of parents and survivors as essential partners in shaping better care systems.
As an organisation that embraces and promotes the Family-Centered Care approach, these global conversations strengthen our conviction and motivation to keep building partnerships so that family wellbeing becomes a central pillar of paediatric care around the world.”
