Jonathan Barge: Why Investing in Cancer Research and Care Matters

Jonathan Barge, Project and Campaigns Manager, shared Flinders Foundation‘s post on LinkedIn, adding:

“One of the most rewarding parts of this work is seeing and meeting the people behind the research, and the very real impact it has beyond reports and results.

Ahead of World Cancer Day, this is a powerful reminder of why investing in cancer research and care genuinely matters, and how it can shape people’s lives in meaningful ways.

Matthew is not only a generous and deeply knowledgeable person to listen to, but the work he and his team are doing is genuinely fascinating, embedding exercise into cancer care and supporting people to recover, rebuild confidence, and improve quality of life during and after treatment. It’s one of those projects that extends beyond the confines of a hospital bed, and beyond care being only about medicine and drugs.

Stories and work like this are why I’m proud to do what I do. Helping support research and programs that translate into practical outcomes when people need them most.”

Quoting Flinders Foundation‘s post:

“Ahead of World Cancer Day next week, it’s important to recognize why investing in cancer research and care matters.

We’re proud to support programs like the Flinders University Cancer, Exercise and Physical Activity (CEPA) Service, embedding exercise medicine into standard cancer care.

As Dr. Matthew Wallen highlights, this work is making a real difference for people living with and beyond cancer – supporting recovery, survivorship, and quality of life.”
