“Nurse Tracie Williamson embodies the culture of the Self Regional Healthcare Cancer Center. We started together 24 years ago, when she was hired to be my nurse and my right hand. Smart, hardworking, deeply compassionate, and always motivated to solve problems in a way that truly helps patients and our team.
What has always stood out most is her servant’s heart. No matter how busy the day was or how difficult the challenges we faced, at the end of every day she would come to me and ask, ‘Is there anything I can do for you?’ That simple question reflects who she is.
That spirit is palpable throughout our cancer center. Everyone is willing to help one another because we share a common purpose—caring for our patients and supporting each other. It is one of the reasons I love working at Self Regional Healthcare.
I also believe this culture begins with leadership. Our administration, including Matthew Logan, MD, MHCM, genuinely cares about both the people who work in the hospital and the patients we serve. That commitment to kindness, teamwork, and compassion is deeply embedded in our organization, and Nurse Tracie is one of its finest examples.
One of the messages from American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) President Elizabeth Mittendorf’s presidential address was that exceptional cancer care begins with exceptional teams. Her theme, ‘Intentional Teams. Exceptional Care.’, reminds us that our responsibility extends beyond caring for our patients – we must also care for one another. It is a powerful reminder that taking care of each other is not separate from taking care of our patients – it is essential to it.”
