Joanna Metzner-Sadurski: When a Community Recognizes Its Cancer Care Team

Joanna Metzner-Sadurski, Medical Doctor at Self Regional Healthcare and Executive Director of Oncology101.org, shared on LinkedIn:

“We are honored to have barbecue prepared by Mr. Latham – Annie Mae’s Barbecue, whose award-winning barbecue was recognized with the Gerald L. Ledbetter Overall Winner Award at the Greenwood Barbecue competition.

What makes today even more meaningful is the story behind it. We wanted to pay for this meal for our staff, but Mr. Latham refused to accept any money. He told us that when people in the community learned who the barbecue was for, they immediately began donating because they wanted to thank all of you for everything you do.

One of the messages that resonated most with me from this year’s American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Presidential Address was the importance of team. Cancer care is never about one person. It is about every member of the team working together toward one common goal: providing the very best care for our patients.

We are incredibly fortunate to work alongside such an outstanding team. The compassion, dedication, and kindness you show every day make this an amazing place to work and an exceptional place for our patients to receive care.”
