Joanna Metzner-Sadurski: When We Invest in Our Teams, We Strengthen Our Ability to Care for Our Patients

Joanna Metzner-Sadurski, Medical Doctor at Self Regional Healthcare and Executive Director of Oncology101.org, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Reading the latest issue of The ASCO Post, I was inspired by this quote from ASCO President Dr. Elizabeth Mittendorf:

‘The word ‘Care’ in my Presidential theme has a double meaning for me in that it refers to not only providing exceptional care for our patients, but ensuring exceptional care for our teams as well, so that everyone enjoys their work and has professional fulfillment.’

This message resonates deeply with me as a community oncologist.

Cancer care is a team. Exceptional outcomes are achieved not only through advances in science and treatment, but through collaboration among physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists, navigators, research staff, and many others who dedicate themselves to caring for patients.

Some of the most meaningful programs we have built, including exercise oncology, health literacy initiatives, and clinical trial access efforts, have succeeded because of strong teams working together with a shared purpose.

When we invest in our teams, we strengthen our ability to care for our patients and our communities.

Thank you to all oncology professionals whose dedication, compassion, and teamwork make a difference every day.”
