It is also a recognition of the importance of health literacy. Oncology101.org The best treatments in the world cannot help patients if they do not understand their diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, or clinical trial opportunities.
Community oncology matters. Rural oncology matters.
I am grateful to the leaders who helped build and champion this movement, including Wade Swenson , Jasmine Kamboj, MD, FASCO and Ruiling Yuan, MD whose dedication to advocacy, education, and patient care continues to inspire so many of us.
While community oncologists represent only a small percentage of the oncology workforce, they care for the vast majority of patients in rural and underserved communities. Their work ensures that patients can receive high-quality cancer care close to home, surrounded by their families and support systems.
