Joanna Fratczak-Kazana: Patient Perspective in Clinical Trials at European Parliament

Joanna Fratczak-Kazana, Associate Managing Director and Head of Communication at Fundacja Onkologiczna Alivia shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Today I had the honour of speaking at the European Parliament, at the invitation of ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology, where I presented the Polish case study and the patient perspective in clinical trials.

What I highligted is that Poland is a strategically important, and still developing research environment with strong clinical infrastructure, solid experience in multinational trials and over 5% of Europe’s oncology clinical trial activity. This creates a very attractive combination of capacity, experience and scalability.

From an EU patient perspective, the problem is that availability does not equal access. Geography and healthcare systems still largely determine access to clinical trials and shape who gets a chance.

And what I emphasised was the need to integrate patient preferences and needs from the very beginning, already at the stage of clinical trial design.

I wish policymakers the courage to make decisions that will simplify and improve patient access to innovation.

The ESMO Industry Strategic Forum report on clinical trials landscape in Europe can be found here.”
