“In January 2025, I started an MBA program through UT Dallas Alliance for Physician Leadership Executive Education.
On my first day on campus, I thought my family would find it funny if I made a quick ‘first day of school’ sign. I had trouble calculating how many years I had been in school, and whether to count my residency and fellowship. Despite those many years, I knew I had knowledge and skills gaps that I needed to address.
Just knowing how to diagnose and treat childhood illnesses is unfortunately not enough.
Access to these opportunities is an even bigger challenge, not only in Africa where I lived and worked for many years, but also in our neighborhoods, cities and states.
Understanding the business of medicine is critical to address these challenges.
Today is my last day on campus as I finish my residential (on campus) courses at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas at The University of Texas at Dallas. I still have one more online class in the fall and anticipate graduating in December.
There are certainly mixed feelings as I am happy to have reached this point with the knowledge gained, but will miss the regular interactions with my clasmates (friends) and professors (mentors).”
