Jennifer Douglas, Writer and DCIS Breast Cancer Patient Advocate, shared on LinkedIn:
“In the middle of BCAM we ought to be encouraging effective and complete treatment of all forms of breast cancer, including DCIS. This article misses the mark by choosing to focus on ‘is is really cancer or not.’
It’s non-invasive breast CANCER. And some DCIS cases are upstaged.
Until we can 100% determine if a DCIS is going to progress or not, then let’s treat it. And how about we focus more on effective treatment rather than if the word ‘cancer’ scares women?
- We aren’t fragile creatures. We can handle big words.
- Stage zero doesn’t mean zero challenges.
- Early detection means more options.
I’m so glad my cancer team took my DCIS seriously.”
