Jennifer Bires: Can AI Make Cancer Care More Human?

Jennifer Bires, Executive Director of Inova Peterson Life with Cancer and Patient Experience at Inova Schar Cancer Institute, shared on LinkedIn:

“I had such a great few days at SHIFT: Driving Innovations in Oncology Care in Austin.

I had the chance to moderate a panel on something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately: as we bring more AI and technology into cancer care, how do we make sure we are using it to make care more human?

Debra Patt, Arif Kamal, Christopher Merlan, and Douglas Flora, each shared simple, meaningful ways they are using technology to make care more personal and to connect with patients on what’s most meaningful to them.

Needless to say, I was inspired.

There is so much these tools can help us do. But the real promise is using them to give clinicians more time and space to actually connect with patients and families.

I also really loved the conversations that happened outside of the panel. I met some incredible people, reconnected with others, and had so many thoughtful conversations about where cancer care is headed and what we want it to look like.

Really grateful to have been part of it and to everyone who joined the conversation.”
