Jean Claude Mutabazi: Cancer Care Should Not Depend on Where You Live

Jean Claude Mutabazi, Board of Directors at Rwanda Cancer Relief, Country Manager at Bloom Public Health and Program Coordinator for Central and West Africa at The Max Foundation, shared a post on LinkedIn:

Cancer care should not depend on where you live. Full stop.

Three years ago, I joined The Max Foundation thinking my role would be mostly technical. I was wrong—in the best way. Access to cancer care is not just technical—it is deeply human.

As a pharmacist, a public health professional, and a human being committed to equity in cancer care, I’ve learned since then is that cancer care is built on people before programs: patients traveling hours for treatment, healthcare providers doing extraordinary work with limited resources to bridge systems and care.

As World Cancer Day approaches, I wrote this reflection on growth, partnership, and what it truly means to be ‘United by Unique.’  A reflection on working across eight countries, supporting patients, healthcare providers, and health systems—while staying grounded in one goal: equitable access to life-saving treatment.

I’m grateful for the growth, the lessons, and the people who make this work possible.”

The Max Foundation shared Jean Claude Mutabazi’s post, adding:

“Insightful reflection by our Program Coordinator for eight countries in Central and West Africa.

We are truly grateful for the care and expertise Jean Claude Mutabazi brings as a pharmacist committed to equity in cancer care.”
