Jason R. Williams Discusses HPV Vaccination in Patients With HPV-Related Cancers and Its Use Around the Time of Surgery

Jason R. Williams, Founder and Director of Interventional Oncology and Immunotherapy at Williams Cancer Institute, shared on X:

“HPV cancers tend to respond better to immunotherapy because they carry viral proteins the immune system can see.

A lot of doctors still don’t give the HPV vaccine to patients who already have an HPV related cancer.

Studies suggest those patients do better when they get it around the time of surgery.

The evidence hasn’t changed the standard of care yet.

I would still want every one of those patients to ask their surgeon about it, especially now that it’s approved up to age 45.”
