Jasmine Kamboj, Physician at Mayo Clinic Health System, Podcast Editor and Host of the ‘Empowering Oncologists’ podcast at OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As physicians are feeling burnt and loosing autonomy/ discretion with rising bureaucracy/admin tasks, many are leaving clinical practices….
It is absolutely critical that we get creative about ways in which to keep the workforce within medicine.
In such a climate, locum industry is rapidly rising,
- providing care to rural/ remote regions in the US, and many times to urban areas/ hospitals as well
- while also allowing physicians to have control and autonomy
- and self made schedule that works for them and their families
Let’s learn from our colleague Vidya Kollu, who has been doing locums for a few years- I think we can benefit from such a set up at any stage of our career, as locums are not only providing oncology care to places where/when it’s most needed, but are also doing it at their terms while being leaders and engaging in several activities to advance the field of medicine/oncology be it research/ leadership/ mentoring.
Thanks, Dr Kollu, for your time, and OncoDaily for this fantastic platform.
We are also bringing this discussion to ASCO26 at the ASCO Health Policy Committee meeting Saturday morning 8:00 AM E253cd.”
