Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr: WHO EMRO Advances Multi-Communicable Disease Elimination Framework

Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr, Director at the Pan American Health Organization, shared on LinkedIn:

“A milestone for global health cooperation and disease elimination.

I am pleased to see WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) advancing a Multi-Communicable Disease Elimination Framework, which will be presented to its Regional Committee this October. This important initiative aims to accelerate the elimination of multiple diseases through an integrated, people-centered approach.

Over the past year, the Pan American Health Organization has shared experiences and lessons learned from our Disease Elimination Initiative, and our teams have contributed technical input to support the development of EMRO’s framework.

It is especially encouraging to see another WHO region adopting a multidisease elimination approach and recognizing the value of regional collaboration in addressing complex public health challenges.

This is a testament to the commitment, innovation, and dedication of the many teams and partners across the Americas who have helped make the diseaase Elimination Initiative a model of public health best practice.

The experience of the Americas shows that disease elimination is achievable and that progress can be accelerated when countries work together through integrated strategies, political commitment, and sustained investment.

I congratulate our colleagues in EMRO on this important step.

By sharing experience across regions, we can accelerate progress toward a world where eliminating multiple diseases is an achievable public health goal.”
