Jan Nolta: Passing the Editorship of Stem Cells to Majlinda Lako in 2026

Jan Nolta, Professor, Director of the Stem Cell Program and Gene Therapy Center at University of California, Davis, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It is with mixed emotions that I hand over the reins of our beloved Journal Stem Cells to the new Editor Dr. Majlinda Lako on January 1, 2026. I am very happy to be able to spend more time “at my day job” as director of our Cell and Gene Therapy Center at the University of California Davis Health, in Sacramento, as we are now in the implementation phase of investment and growth, and it truly does take all of my waking hours of time and energy.

But I have been with the Journal since 2008, first as Associate Editor, then Editor, and then Editor-in-Chief since 2013.  So I will certainly miss it! I will still be around, on the editorial board, to handle resubmitted manuscripts I had started processing as lead reviewer.

On this occasion I would like to send a thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to our amazing team at the journal, to Ann Murphy, PhD and Dr. Martin J. Murphy, who started it and ran it with love and dedication for 40 years under Alphamed press, before it was taken up by Oxford University Press. I want to especially thank our associate editors Dr. Majlinda Lako, Dr. Noel Buckley, Dr. Terry Lappin, and Dr. Toru Kondo, who have worked tirelessly alongside me to handle and process the submitted manuscripts. A SPECIAL heartfelt thank you to all of our authors and reviewers over the years. You have all made the journal so special and it has been my immense pleasure to work with you!

Happy New Year to all and I hope that you will continue to send great manuscripts to the journal! I wish you the very, very best of luck as the new editor Linda.”
