James Hamrick: Raising Awareness of Clinical Trial Opportunities

James Hamrick, Chair of Precision Oncology Alliance at Caris Life Sciences, shared on LinkedIn:

“Patients sometimes learn about a clinical trial only after they are no longer eligible. In Patient Power, my colleague Dr. George Sledge explained that trial eligibility often depends on the treatments a patient has already received. That makes the time before starting a new line of therapy an important opportunity to ask about trials. For patients with hormone receptor-positive advanced breast cancer, where treatment options are evolving quickly, timing matters.

As he emphasized, the decision to join a trial belongs to the patient. Care teams can support that choice by discussing trial options early and helping patients understand their cancer’s biology through comprehensive molecular profiling, a focus of our work Caris Life Sciences.

If you are living with advanced breast cancer, or supporting someone who is, consider asking your care team about clinical trials and biomarker testing before your next treatment decision. If your center does not offer a suitable trial, ask whether a referral code could help you find one.”
