Isabel Mestres: Strengthening Collaboration to Close the Cancer Care Gap at C/Can Retreat

Isabel Mestres, CEO of the City Cancer Challenge, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Last week in Barcelona, our C/Can team gathered for our annual retreat for five days to pause, reconnect, and recharge, but above all, to strengthen the collaboration that drives our mission.

The week began with a special event honouring Barcelona’s leadership in advancing cancer care. Thanks to the vision and commitment of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), Hospital del Mar, Barcelona Children’s Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and the Catalonia Cancer Plan, we saw how local leadership can inspire progress in cities across LMICs.

Our retreat theme collaboration guided every conversation. How do we work smarter across teams, cities, and partners to close the cancer care gap? The discussions were open, the ideas bold, and our shared purpose stronger than ever.

For a team spread across 25 different legislations, mostly working remotely, these moments together are critical. They allow us to build the bonds of trust and connection that make our work possible and impactful.

This week, I’m already in New York for UNGA80, where we’ll continue the conversation: amplifying local voices, sharing lessons, and building the partnerships needed to strengthen cancer care globally.

If you’re here too, let’s connect!”
