The G7 Puts Cancer at the Centre of the Global Agenda – IPM Alliance

The G7 Puts Cancer at the Centre of the Global Agenda

Cancer is no longer just a health challenge. It is an economic challenge. A research challenge. A data challenge. A societal challenge. And increasingly, a geopolitical challenge.

That is why the G7 Leaders’ Call on the Fight Against Cancer matters.

With nearly 10 million deaths every year and cancer cases projected to increase by 80% globally by 2050, the G7 has sent a clear signal: cancer must become a central pillar of health-system resilience, scientific cooperation and innovation policy.

The commitments are ambitious:

  •  Accelerating prevention, screening and early diagnosis
  • Strengthening international research collaboration
  • Expanding access to quality cancer care
  • Advancing the responsible use of AI and digital technologies
  • Improving clinical decision-making through clinical, genomic and imaging data
  • Enhancing international cooperation on clinical trials and cancers with poor prognosis
  • Supporting secure and interoperable health-data ecosystems

Importantly, this is not simply a G7 conversation. Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya and the Republic of Korea have joined in support, reflecting a growing international consensus that the future of cancer control depends on collaboration across borders.

For the IPM Alliance, this agenda strongly reflects the principles of personalised medicine: delivering the right intervention to the right patient at the right time, supported by robust diagnostics, trustworthy data, scientific innovation and equitable access.

But declarations alone do not save lives.

They become meaningful only when translated into screening programmes, molecular diagnostics, clinical-trial opportunities, interoperable data systems, workforce training, research infrastructure and better patient pathways.

The political signal from the G7 is now unmistakable. The challenge ahead is delivery.

IPM Alliance looks forward to working with policymakers, clinicians, researchers, patient organisations and industry partners to ensure these commitments become measurable improvements in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes for patients worldwide.”
