“Putting people at the centre of cancer control.
The WHO Global Status Report on Cancer 2026 presents a timely call to strengthen cancer control through a more people-centred and equitable approach.
The report highlights three strategic shifts that can help shape the future of cancer care:
- Better capabilities – integrating cancer control into universal health coverage and investing in the health workforce.
- Better protections – placing people with lived experience at the heart of cancer systems while strengthening social protection.
- Better value – aligning research and innovation with public health needs and ensuring equitable access to high-value cancer care.
As countries continue to face a growing cancer burden, these recommendations underscore the importance of collaboration between governments, healthcare professionals, researchers, patient organisations, industry, and policymakers.
At IPM, we recognise the value of evidence-informed policy in translating global recommendations into meaningful action. Advancing equitable access, fostering innovation, and supporting patient-centred care will be essential to improving cancer outcomes across Europe and beyond.
