Ioana Stoenescu: Bridging the Gap Between Intention and Action in Prevention in Romania

Ioana Stoenescu, Head of External Affairs, Market Access and Reputation at Roche, shared a post by Local American Working Group Association (LAWG), adding:

“Prevention in Romania: we know it matters-yet we still act too late.

At the launch of the national study ‘Health Prevention: An Analysis of Perceptions and Behaviors in Romania’ at UMFCD Bucharest, one message stood out clearly: the gap between intention and action is real and systemic.

This reinforces a strong belief: we can’t shift from reactive care to proactive prevention without truly understanding how people think and behave.

What the data tells us:

  • Doctors still drive action – 53% access prevention only on physician recommendation
  • AI > social media for health info – tools like ChatGPT (31%) now surpass social platforms (20%)
  • Awareness isn’t enough – 12% haven’t accessed preventive services in 2 years
  • Barriers are structural – cost, waiting times, and bureaucracy lead the list

What needs to change:

  • Make prevention easy (simple, unified access systems)
  • Reach the underserved (mobile care)
  • Activate employers (workplace prevention)

The takeaway is simple: people are willing, but the system must enable them.

Proud to be part of the conversations-and initiatives-that support turning prevention from intention into action.”
