Europe Opens Another Door to China-Origin Immunotherapy for Lung Cancer – IAPM

International Alliance for Personalised Medicine(IAPM) shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Europe opens another door to China-origin immunotherapy for lung cancer.

The European Commission has approved serplulimab, developed by Shanghai Henlius, in combination with chemotherapy for the first-line treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC).

The approval follows positive results from the ASTRUM-005 Phase III trial, where serplulimab demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) compared with chemotherapy alone- reinforcing the growing role of PD-1 immunotherapy in treating one of the most aggressive forms of lung cancer.

Beyond the clinical data, this marks another important step in the globalisation of oncology innovation. As China-developed therapies continue to gain regulatory approvals in Europe, they have the potential to expand treatment options, foster competition, and improve patient access across healthcare systems.

At IPM Alliance, we believe innovation only delivers its full value when it reaches patients through robust evidence, equitable access, and effective implementation.
