Humaid Al-Shamsi: There Are Always Priorities – The Importance of Family Engagement in Cancer Care

Humaid Al-Shamsi, CEO of Burjeel Cancer Institute (BCI) Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared on X about the role of family members in cancer care, along with a story from a patient’s son:

“Some family members blame the doctor and the medical team when a cancer patient’s condition deteriorates, even though he never bothered to visit the clinic or check on the patient’s status himself, but only follows up by phone when there are bumps in the patient’s treatment journey.

We apologize with excuses of work and life’s pressures, but there are always priorities, and just as our ancestors said,

‘The one who wants prayer won’t miss it.’

Listen to this story from a patient’s son who didn’t visit the clinic to follow up on his father, who had advanced-stage cancer, for more than 3 years!”
