Humaid Al-Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer of Burjeel Cancer Institute shared a post on LinkedIn:
“ICU oncology round at 6:45 AM.
One commitment I made early in my oncology career was to always personally review my own admitted patients.
Having worked in both the US and the UAE, I’ve seen many oncology patients admitted under other inpatient teams (e.g., hospitalists). While these teams often deliver excellent care, an important element is frequently missing: continuity of care.
That is why, at Burjeel Cancer Institute | BCI , we designed our inpatient oncology model so that each admitted cancer patient is assigned to their primary oncology provider, who remains directly responsible for their inpatient care.
This approach not only strengthens physician accountability, but also improves communication, and – most importantly – delivers better continuity and higher satisfaction for cancer patients and their families.”
