I’m honoured to have coordinated the hashtag#BUMPER project alongside our amazing partners from across Europe, working together to advance cancer prevention efforts.

A special thank you to the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS for their outstanding work in leading the implementation of this study and the publication of its results.”

Quoting Furqan Ahmed‘s post:

“I’m pleased to share that our work has been published in JMIR Publications Formative Research:

“Assessing the User Experience of the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention: Mixed Methods Study”

This study evaluated the usability of the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention across seven European countries. We found that while overall usability was high, differences in digital health literacy, age, and education strongly shaped user experience. The study provided insights, showing how multilingual support, age-friendly design, strong privacy protections, and engaging features such as gamification can make the app more accessible and appealing to diverse populations.

The work was carried out within the BUMPER project (Boosting the Usability of the EU Mobile App for Cancer Prevention), funded by the EU4Health programme under Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan. The project brings together partners from eleven countries to make cancer prevention more accessible and equitable. The app is built on the European Code Against Cancer, coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and aims to translate evidence-based recommendations into practical tools for citizens.

I’m grateful for the collaboration and support of co-authors, institutions, and everyone who contributed through feedback and testing.
