Heath Skinner on Growth at UPMC Ireland and Access to Advanced Cancer Care

Heath Skinner, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Just back from a whirlwind few days in Ireland and wanted to say that I am so very grateful to and impressed by our UPMC Ireland team!

We have tremendous growth at our UPMC Whitfield site, providing cutting-edge radiation care (including SBRT) and making sure even more patients don’t have to travel far for the very best care.

Our radiation facility in Cork (a collaboration with our colleagues at Bon Secours Health System Ireland) continues to offer the very best in cancer care. While there I was fortunate enough to join in a tea celebrating International Clinical Trials Day, where I got a chance to meet some of the amazing patients working with our staff to both get the very latest in care, as well as making sure the next generation of patients benefits from their experiences.

In between these two site visits, I even got to put on a hard hat and tour our new facility in Limerick (another collaboration with Bon Secours Health System Ireland) that will combine medical and radiation oncology under one roof, ensuring even more patients can access cutting-edge care closer to home.

This is my mission and our mission at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center: to put the very finest cancer care in the reach of every patient regardless of geography or circumstance. And it’s why I am proud to help lead our radiation oncology team as we carry this mission forward.”
