Hayley Jones, Director at McCabe Centre for Law and Cancerm, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Tobacco control is firmly and rightly on the agenda this UNGA week, with a fantastic kick off event from Dr Bronwyn King AO and Rebecca Brown of Tobacco Free Portfolios. It was great to hear insights from Dr Cary Adams, Chris Bostic of ASH USA and Patrick Henning, California’s Chief Deputy Treasurer, on why divesting from tobacco and nicotine products makes good business, not to mention health, sense.
As Cary said, 20-25% of all cancer deaths linked to tobacco, so we can’t talk about addressing cancer without dealing with tobacco. With many countries and regions introducing laws for tobacco-free generations and strengthening implementation of the WHO FCTC, we have reasons to be hopeful but must maintain momentum.
Lovely also to connect with change-makers like Vicki Durston, Brian Li Han Wong, Andrew Black of the WHOFCTC Convention Secretariat, Juliette McHardy and more, on a Manhattan rooftop in golden hour!”
