Harpal Kumar: NHS-Galleri Trial Full Results Presented at ASCO 2026

Harpal Kumar, Chief Scientific Officer and President, Global Clinical and Medical Affairs at GRAIL, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“It has been a career highlight to see the full results from the NHS-Galleri trial presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting this morning.

The NHS-Galleri trial is the first and largest randomised controlled trial of screening with a multi-cancer early detection (MCED) test, and the only trial to generate clinical utility data at population scale. Seeing these results presented on the ASCO stage marks an important milestone for the field.

The NHS-Galleri trial has shown that annual screening with the Galleri MCED blood test could reduce stage IV cancers substantially, helping to detect more cancers before they reach the most advanced stage, when there is greater opportunity for cure.

Although the primary endpoint of a reduction in stage III/IV cancers was not met, the trial generated strong evidence that Galleri can increase earlier cancer detection and reduce metastatic stage IV disease at population scale.

I want to thank the more than 142,000 people from across England who so generously gave their time to take part in the trial.

I’m looking forward to continuing discussions with health system leaders on the implications of these results and the next steps towards implementation following ASCO.”
