Hannah Wardill, NHMRC/Hospital Research Foundation Fellow and Lead of Supportive Oncology Research Group at SAHMRI/Uni AdelaideMASCC Board Member, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Supportive care cannot be truly patient-centred unless patients are part of the conversation.
That is why it is so encouraging to see 46 patient partners now actively engaged as members of The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC).
Over recent years, MASCC has worked to create meaningful opportunities for people with lived experience to contribute across the society. I have been privileged to contribute to this journey alongside many wonderful colleagues, including Anna Boltong, through the development of the MASCC Patient Partnership Committee.
We implemented key initiatives designed to reduce barriers to participation, including reduced membership fees and free conference registration.
Importantly, patient partners are not attending as observers.
They are collaborators, educators, advocates, researchers, speakers, authors, committee members, and leaders.
As we gather in Melbourne for MASCC 2026, it is wonderful to see patient partners represented throughout the meeting and helping to shape discussions about the future of supportive care in cancer.
Thank you to our patient partners for sharing your experiences, insights, and expertise. MASCC is stronger because of your contributions.”
