Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed: Person-Centered Cancer Care at UICC World Cancer Congress 2026

Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed, Scientific Advisor at the Qatar Cancer Society and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, shared on LinkedIn:

Person-centered cancer care is not an optional addition to a health system-it is central to delivering care that is equitable, responsive and sustainable.

I am pleased to be presenting my research at the UICC World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong, taking place from 24–26 September.

Our review examined person-centered cancer care across the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region. From 614 records screened, 51 studies covering 10 countries were included.

The findings show encouraging progress toward integrated approaches, while also revealing important gaps-particularly the absence of sustainable financing models needed to embed person-centered care within health systems.

These abstract matters because person-centered care must extend beyond individual clinical encounters. It requires coordinated services, meaningful patient and community engagement, supportive policies, a prepared workforce, and financing mechanisms that make quality care sustainable and accessible.

I look forward to engaging with researchers, health leaders, advocates and people with lived experience to explore how we can translate evidence into practical, context-sensitive action across the region and beyond.

If you are attending the Congress, I would be delighted to connect and exchange perspectives on advancing person-centered cancer care.”
