Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed: Contributing to Qatar’s National Health Research Priority-Setting Journey

Hadi Mohamad Abu Rasheed, Scientific Advisor at the Qatar Cancer Society and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Doha for Science and Technology, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Delighted to share that I have successfully concluded my contribution to Qatar’s national health research priority-setting journey, a process I have been engaged in since October, culminating in the National Health Research Priority-Setting Workshop held on 7-8 December at the Mandarin Oriental Doha.

Over these months, I participated in a structured, evidence-informed process to shortlist, score, and agree on national health research priorities, followed by feasibility and implementation discussions to help ensure the final priorities are not only important but also practical and impactful.

The discussions spanned a wide range of research areas, including basic science, clinical research, health systems and services research, population health research, and translational and implementation research, reflecting the breadth of Qatar’s health research needs and opportunities.

Throughout the journey, I consistently brought a cancer control lens into the conversation—advocating for priorities that strengthen prevention and early detection, improve patient outcomes and experience, and accelerate real-world implementation across the cancer continuum.

What made this journey especially meaningful was the scale of collaboration across Qatar’s health and research ecosystem, with strong participation from the Ministry of Public Health – Qatar, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra Medicine, Qatar University, Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, University of Doha for Science and Technology, Qatar Precision Health Institute, Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council, Qatar Biomedical Research Institute – QBRI, Al-Ahli Hospital, The View Hospital, Ministry of Defense Qatar Armed Forces – Medical Services, and other national research bodies, alongside representatives from the World Health Organization and Qatar Cancer Society

I am grateful to have contributed to a national effort that strengthens evidence-based decision-making and supports a unified health research agenda aligned with Qatar’s National Health Strategy for 2024 to 2030.”
