Guru Sonpavde: Year-End Reflections on Phase I Clinical Trial Progress at AdventHealth Cancer Institute

Guru Sonpavde, GU Oncology and Phase I Clinical Trials Director, Chair of Bladder Cancer Research at AdventHealth Central Florida, Professor of Medicine at the University of Central Florida, and at Loma Linda University Health, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Phase I clinical research unit Adventhealth Cancer Institute, Orlando, Florida year-end holiday party 2025 and highlights: our team and families met to celebrate a year of accomplishments

This year, we enjoyed explosive growth and more than doubled our clinicaltrial accrual. We brought new treatments for cancer to central Florida and beyond, added new members to the team and coauthored several plenary or oral presentations at major conferences AACR25, ASCO25, ESMO25, SITC25

We topped off the evening with an astronomy session. We enjoyed watching Saturn and Titan using my trusted 8 inch Dobsonian telescope and imagined how Galileo and Huygens may have felt when first looking at them through their telescopes. Phase I clinical trials are in many ways an adventure similar to astronomy- exploring the promising but unknown to make advances – clinical trials should be considered a preferred standard of care in our quest to cure all cancers.

Thanks to our team for making all this happen.”
