Goodluck Nchasi, Medical Doctor at Bugando Medical Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Advancement in cancer treatment and supportive care has improved survival rates among children with cancer globally. I agree the improved survival is a win in LMIC, but the journey doesn’t end there. My medical school thesis in 2023 showed a high risk of late effects like cardiomyopathy among our survivors, pointing to an urgent need for dedicated follow-up clinics.
Thrilled to announce my next-phase proposal has been selected for the SIOP Africa 2026 Pre-Congress Workshop in Lagos Nigeria! I hope to determine the prevalence of late effects and identify barriers to follow up care among childhood cancer survivors at Bugando Medical Centre, Tanzania.
Much appreciation to the pediatric cancer experts who supported my application including Dr. Heronima Joas, kristin schroeder , Dr. Jacques van heerden, Dr. Anel Van Zyl.
Thank you to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and SIOP AFRICA for the opportunity.”
