Gonzalo López-Cuevas, Founding President of Cancer Warriors of Mexico, shared on LinkedIn:
“Today, following Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)’s 2026 General Assembly, which brought together our global community of more than 1,100 member organisations, my term as Treasurer of this remarkable organisation, founded in 1933, also comes to an end.
As I reflect on the past six years serving on the UICC Board of Directors, I feel deeply privileged to have worked alongside such dedicated and inspiring colleagues. The trust, shared experiences, and lessons learned throughout this journey have been truly invaluable.
I had the honor of serving under three outstanding Presidents: Dr. Anil D’Cruz, Professor Jeff Dunn AO, and Ulrika Årehed Kågström. A special recognition goes to Ulrika, who entrusted me with the responsibility of serving as Treasurer. Her leadership, friendship, and resilience have been a lasting source of inspiration.

I also wish our new President and dear friend, Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, every success as she begins this new chapter of leadership. I am confident that her experience, commitment, and vision will continue to strengthen UICC and advance our shared mission around the world.
I want to acknowledge Dr. Cary Adams, an exceptional leader and a true professional role model. His dedication, vision, and outstanding leadership have been instrumental in positioning UICC as the leading global organisation in cancer control.
My warmest congratulations to CS Pramesh, our newly elected President-Elect, to my re-elected colleagues, and to the new members of the Board of Directors. A special mention goes to Julia Ismael, from Argentina, who, together with Maira Caleffi from Brazil, will continue representing Latin America on the Board. I wish them every success.
As I said in Hong Kong, once you become part of UICC, you remain part of this extraordinary family. I look forward to staying connected and continuing to contribute to our shared mission.
It has been a true honor and privilege to serve UICC over these six remarkable years.”
