Gonzalo López-Cuevas, Founding President of Cancer Warriors of Mexico, Treasurer at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Can the law be used to strengthen cancer care? Yes, absolutely. I am pleased to share that we are about to secure the approval of our 13th law focused on early cancer detection, now in Mexico City.
As a lawyer and President of Fundación Cáncer Warriors de México, I am deeply grateful to all those who continue to join this collective effort.
In the context of World Cancer Day, we introduced this initiative, now officially published in Mexico City’s Legislative Gazette, to ensure that workers can access paid days for early detection tests covering up to six types of cancer: breast, cervical, prostate, testicular, melanoma and endometrial.
Yes, we illuminated iconic landmarks such as the Angel Of Independence, but more importantly, we continue to advance concrete actions that become rights for patients. Commemoration must lead to action.
The suffering of a patient and their family does not only seek to be heard, it seeks solutions. And we will continue moving forward.”
