“A World Cancer Leaders Summit that marks a turning point — and a World Cancer Declaration that sets the tone for the decade ahead.
My latest article in Periódico Excelsior reflects on the 2025 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Melbourne — a gathering that brought together global vision, scientific leadership and political commitment to accelerate progress against cancer.
Link to translate it into English.
This Summit in Australia was far more than a meeting. It reaffirmed that global health advances when collaboration, trust and shared purpose guide our actions. The launch of the World Cancer Declaration sends a powerful message: the next decade will demand unity, clarity and bold, measurable progress.
As Treasurer of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), I remain committed to strengthening the financial and institutional foundations that support our mission — ensuring that this Declaration translates into real impact for every region worldwide.
In the piece, I highlight several key leaders who are shaping today’s global cancer control agenda, including:
- Ulrika Årehed Kågström, President of the UICC;
- Cary Adams, CEO of the UICC;
- Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu, President-Elect of the UICC;
- Mark Butler, Minister for Health and Aged Care of Australia;
- Todd Harper, CEO of Cancer Council Victoria; and many other colleagues whose leadership continues to inspire the international community.
Grateful for the collaboration — and for the opportunity to contribute during such a defining moment for our global community.”
