“A lawyer in the field of cancer control? Yes. In this first image there are not one, but two.
As the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit 2025 — organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) — begins here in Australia, we kicked off the week with an important session hosted by the McCabe Centre for Law & Cancer. This Centre, unique in its kind, is fully composed of lawyers dedicated to strengthening public health systems, particularly in the field of cancer control.
Here with my friend and colleague Hayley Jones, with whom I have shared panels, forums, conversations, and projects for more than six years — ever since we met in Kazakhstan, where we participated together in the first panel on using the law to protect the rights of cancer patients.
Today, I had the opportunity to deliver brief remarks on behalf of UICC, where we recognize and fully support the outstanding work carried out by the McCabe Centre.
Thank you for the trust, Dr Cary Adams, and to our President Ulrika Årehed Kågström. We will continue working together to advance the implementation of effective legislation for the benefit of cancer patients worldwide.”
