How Is the World Fighting Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in 2025?

Every year, millions of people die from diseases that vaccines could prevent. This problem hits hardest in poorer countries, where access to affordable vaccines remains limited.

Against this backdrop, the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) released its 2025 Annual Report, documenting its global efforts to change this reality.

The report covers IVI’s work across more than 50 projects in Africa alone, targeting diseases like cholera, typhoid, mpox, and schistosomiasis. IVI began developing its fourth in-house vaccine, targeting Klebsiella pneumoniae, the leading cause of neonatal sepsis worldwide.

The organization launched an mpox vaccine study in the Democratic Republic of Congo, aiming to vaccinate 150,000 people. In Burkina Faso, a typhoid vaccination campaign reached over 10 million children. IVI also trained thousands of biomanufacturing professionals globally, building local capacity in low and middle income countries.

The report reveals a clear institutional commitment: vaccines must reach the people who need them most, not just those who can afford them.
