“In Part 1 of our myth-busting series, we addressed three of the most common misconceptions about clinical trials – the “guinea pig” myth, the placebo myth, and the “last resort” myth.
Part 2 tackles the access barriers – the myths that make patients believe participation isn’t an option for them.
The reality: trial-related costs are typically covered by the sponsor, with many trials offering additional transportation or compensation support. Clinical trials are conducted at community hospitals, cancer clinics, and increasingly through telehealth – not only at major academic centers. And participation is always voluntary. A patient can withdraw at any time, for any reason.
GCCA’s Clinical Trial Awareness program is working to close the information gap that keeps patients from exploring their options – and partnering with industry to improve trial design, recruitment, and retention.
When barriers are removed, access expands. That’s the goal.
