Giuseppe Banna, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”It was a pleasure to return to Sinaia, Romania, to join colleagues and friends for a truly productive exchange of ideas in thoracic oncology at the ESMO in Focus Lung Cancer Romania organised by the IT SNOMR. Our discussions centred on the vital task of translating clinical trial data into meaningful, real-world choices that directly impact our patients.
Navigating the complexities of early-stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) requires addressing the clinical heterogeneity and the often blurred lines between resectability and operability, the significance of pathological response to neoadjuvant chemo-immunotherapy and the absolute necessity of basing these pivotal decisions on rigorous multidisciplinary discussion. Reaching a local consensus within the MDT framework remains the gold standard for personalised care.
A highlight of the meeting was the session on the molecular classification of small-cell lung cancer and how it shapes our approach to the newest available treatments.
The discussion was enriched by the presence of special colleagues and friends Alfredo Addeo and Mariano Provencio, and impeccable organisation and warm hospitality of the Romanian colleagues who have made the history of oncology, particularly thoracic oncology, in Romania Lucian Miron, Mircea Dediu, Tudor Eliade Ciuleanu alongside Dana Clement, Amedeia Nita, Laura Mazilu, Serban Negru who continue to devote energy, passion and efforts to the advancement of thoracic oncology in Romania.
A special thanks to Maria Barbu and Adriela-Saina Sandulache for their true friendship, and to the organising committee of the IT SNOMR Rialda Raduc and Alesia A., for their usual warm hospitality.
Last but not least, a sincere thank you to the truly amazing Romanian AstraZeneca team for their continued support Gheorghe Melinte, Ionescu Dragos, Ionita Alexandra, Ciprian Rus and all their excellent colleagues.”
