Giuseppe Banna, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Congratulations to Katie Poulter, Oncology Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist, for presenting the Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust Oncology Lung Team’s frailty assessment project at the UKONS (UK Oncology Nursing Society) Conference in Birmingham!
Katie shared their poster on an important initiative focused on frailty in patients with advanced lung cancer aged 65 and over. The project introduces routine frailty assessment using the ONCOassist® app tool, conducted prior to patients’ appointments with their oncologist. This helps identify overall health and vulnerability, tailor treatment pathways, and highlight potentially reversible areas of frailty, reducing the risk of treatment-related adverse events and enhancing the overall patient experience.
A particularly innovative feature: conference attendees could interactively contribute feedback via the QR code on the poster to share their practice on our frailty assessment approach.
Well done, Katie, for leading such impactful work.”
