Gilberto Lopes, Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“Back at ASCO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, for the first time since before the COVID-19 pandemic!
Today we are meeting in person as members of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Government Relations Committee (GRC).
The GRC helps shape ASCO’s advocacy priorities and engagement with Congress and federal policymakers on issues that directly affect patients with cancer and the professionals who care for them.
Our work includes protecting federal funding for cancer research, ensuring sustainable Medicare reimbursement, reducing administrative barriers such as prior authorization, strengthening the oncology workforce, and improving access to high-quality cancer care.
These are not abstract policy discussions. Decisions made in Washington affect whether patients can receive treatment on time, whether clinical trials can move forward, and whether cancer care remains accessible and affordable.
Good cancer policy is an essential part of good cancer care.
Looking forward to productive discussions with colleagues and ASCO’s advocacy team.”
