Gilberto Lopes, Chief of the Division of Medical Oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, shared a post on X:
“Curious about GLP-1 agonists and cancer?
Here is a structured summary and critical appraisal of ASCO26 presentations.
In summary, 28 observational studies across ≥12 cancers overwhelmingly linked GLP-1 therapies with better cancer outcomes in prevention, downstaging and survival in advanced disease. But shared biases may explain much of the benefit. The signal warrants prospective randomized trials—not prescribing GLP-1 drugs to prevent or treat cancer.
But these agents are shaping up to become longevity drugs if we can prove these benefits.”
