Giannis Mountzios, Director of the 4th Oncology Department and Clinical Trials Unit at Henry Dunant Hospital Center, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“This weekend, the ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology Masterclass on resectable non-small cell lung cancer was successfully completed in Athens.

I had the great pleasure and honor to co-organize it together with Professor of Oncology at the University of Lausanne, Peters Solange – one of the leading global experts in lung cancer – as well as with my excellent colleague and friend Helena Linardou, Medical Oncology Director at Metropolitan Hospital.

More than 60 young oncologists from across Europe participated in this seminar. Throughout the event, the latest developments and innovative therapeutic approaches in lung cancer were presented and discussed by an outstanding international faculty, widely recognized for their scientific expertise and contributions to the field: Martin Reck, Noemi Reguart, MD, PhD Jean Yannis Perentes Arsela Prelaj Corinne Faivre-Finn Lizza Hendriks Jordi Remon Anne-Marie Dingemans Keith Kerr.

The program included, among others:

  • Air pollution and environmental carcinogenesis in lung cancer.
  • Pathology, molecular biology, and applications of artificial intelligence.
  • Staging, surgical quality, and modern radiotherapy techniques.
  • Perioperative immunotherapy strategies.
  • Targeted therapies in resectable lung cancer.
  • Design of clinical trials in perioperative immunotherapy.
  • Workshop on clinical trial design and future steps for de-escalation/intensification strategies.

I would like to warmly thank all the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions, and especially the ESMO staff for their excellent administrative support and organization of this important scientific event.

The success of this initiative highlighted, among other things, the high level of scientific work being carried out in our country 🇬🇷 .

I hope we will repeat this remarkable initiative next year, as the education of young scientists at an international level is a fundamental responsibility of the global academic oncology community.”
