‘What do the women she treats every day teach her? Is there a word that you consider essential in the doctor-patient relationship?’
This is the last question Giorgiana Pojar asked me in the fifth episode of ‘Voci in Viaggio’, the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS ‘s podcast, together with Carolina Marconi.
In many years of profession I have learned that every patient leaves a lesson.
Every story is different. Each one reminds us that, beyond a diagnosis and a treatment path, there is a person with his fears, his projects, his hopes and his extraordinary ability to face difficult moments.
If I had to choose one word to describe the relationship between doctor and patient, I would choose trust.
Trust comes from listening, clarity, availability and sharing of decisions. It is what allows us to build a true therapeutic alliance and to face even the most complex paths together.
In this video I share a reflection that stems from the experience and privilege of accompanying many women every day in their treatment journey.
