Gianluca Franceschini: Appointed Director of CERITIN, Advancing Integrated Breast Cancer Care

Gianluca Franceschini, Full Professor of General Surgery and Director of the Master’s Program in Integrated Therapies for Female Oncological Pathologies at Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, shared a post on LinkedIn:

” ‘I felt like a person, not just a patient’

Some time ago a patient told me this sentence.
It stayed with me, because it encapsulates the deepest sense of what we mean by true innovation in oncology.

Today I take on the role of Director of the Research and Training Center on Integrated Therapies in Breast Neoplasms (CERITIN) of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart with honor and a sense of responsibility (Rector’s Decree no. 1972).

I would like to thank the Rector, Prof. Elena Beccalli, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Prof. Alessandro Sgambato, the Director General, Dr. Paolo Nusiner, the Director of the Rome office, Dr. Lorenzo Cecchi and the CERITIN Steering Committee for the trust they have placed in me.
A special thanks to Prof. Riccardo Masetti for the work he has done over the years and for his decisive contribution to the growth of the Center.

CERITIN was born and grew with a clear vision:
Integrate traditional cancer treatments with scientifically validated complementary interventions such as psycho-oncology, clinical nutrition, physiotherapy, acupuncture, mindfulness and art therapy.

Integrated therapies are not an optional add-on.
If supported by rigorous research, they help improve quality of life, promote adherence to treatment and accompany people throughout the disease pathway.

For me, leading CERITIN means combining university research, advanced clinical practice and attention to the person to develop truly personalized care models centered on the needs of patients.

The real challenge today is to transform cancer research into integrated research!

What do you think are the most urgent priorities today for research on integrated therapies in oncology? The comparison of different skills and experiences is essential to build better care pathways.”
